A Masterpiece Within A Masterpiece

The journey of creativity begins with a thought, an idea, a vision, a dream or any number of ways. Today, mine began with a picture that I kept seeing for days. I would worship and see the Sistine Chapel in Italy. I would see the famous fresco called The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo. God reaching out to Adam, fingers almost touching. Much has been said about this fresco over the years. Since Rivers of Eden is in our creative destiny, let me add my thoughts. I pray that you would continue reading and that these thoughts, over the next few blogs, would challenge you to be creative and reach for God as He is indeed, reaching out to each one of you.

Here I go again - walking through a journey of revelation based upon an initial picture given to me during a time of worship. I walk out the revelation as God reveals to me what He wants to say through the picture He gave to me of The Creation of Adam. I started to research this fresco. The information was just that – information. Information is easy to get, yet, what revelation does God want to give me about this piece of art?

Suddenly in reading about this fresco, I read this simple statement that stirred such excitement and expectation in my spirit. Someone said that in this piece of art there is “…a masterpiece within a masterpiece.”  Ah, God! Let me bask in the moment of expectation when you realize God wants to speak to YOU. Ahhhhh!

A masterpiece within a masterpiece. The fresco itself is glorious. There is Adam and there is God. God reaching out to Adam – fingers almost touching, yet not touching as the picture above in this blog will show you. Many say the actual painting of Adam, which was supposedly finished in 4 days, is a masterpiece within the masterpiece of the whole fresco. Ahhhh God!

Michelangelo did not rely upon getting inspiration for this fresco from the established tradition of the sacred art of the time. He looked to Scripture and read the Old Testament to inspire him. He did not copy, or mimic but he created through revelation. Ahhhh God!

Let me breathe for one second as my heart is racing ahead and I can’t keep up with writing my thoughts. It will take several blogs to explore the depth of what this is saying to me, as I write to you. Think. Listen. See. A masterpiece within a masterpiece. Adam is God’s masterpiece. If you will Google what this picture looks like in its entirety, you will see that Adam is a part of this picture. He is part of the whole grand scheme of things. Yet, Adam is a focal part, a glorious part. So important that God Himself extends His finger to Adam to impart the very breath of life.

Yet………their fingers never touch. How intriguing. How glorious. How wonderful. Let me breathe and I will be back tomorrow to write more.
